Chester racecourse

Known as the Roodee it is the oldest racecourse in Britain with the sport dating back to 1511. It is also the smallest at just over a mile which produces a thrilling spectacle for the big crowds that always flock to this delightful venue.

Good quality Flat racing is held between May and September, the most noteworthy being the three-days at the start of the season with the Chester Cup taking pride of place.

Road: From North or South, M6-M56, leaving at Junction 14. Track 3/4m SW of town centre between A483 and A548
Rail: Euston to Chester, then bus to town hall and on to course
Car park: Car Parking £4. Coach minibus on course £6 a day (pre-book)
Flat: Tight left-hand circuit with a short run-in of just over a furlong. Low numbers have a distinct advantage, a fast break in sprints is essential.
