Clairwood racecourse

Clairwood Turf Club Limited opened in May, 1921 when a horse called Oriel won the first ever race worth 175 sovereigns.

Built on an old swamp, it is now known as the Garden Course and was bought out by Natal Racecourse Development Fund who undertook a big redevelopment programme in 1982 which included a grandstand which now dominates the skyline for miles around.

Flat: A flat left-handed track with a circumference of 1m 5f. A straight course of 6f is used for all sprints and joins the round course at the 3f mark.
