Kempton racecourse
The closest racecourse to London, just 16 miles away, it is set in Sunbury-on-Thames half a mile from Junction 1 of the M3. National Hunt fans are treated at Christmas to the King George VI Chase while its new floodlit all-weather track, opened in 2006, gives it all-year round and floodlit racing.
The racecourse was the idea of 19th century businessman S.H. Hyde, who leased Kempton Manor and Park for sale and set up racing in 1878.
