McManus pair in Betfair frame

Get Me Out Of Here

Darlan and Get Me Out Of Here remain possible contenders for owner JP McManus in the valuable Betfair Hurdle at Newbury next weekend.

Nicky Henderson's unbeaten Darlan is prominent in the betting for the lucrative handicap, but the trainer has expressed his frustration that his charge would have to race off a mark 3lb higher than his official rating.

This is because the gelding was put up 9lb for his narrow win at Taunton a month ago, after which the weights for Newbury released, but Darlan was then dropped 3lb after Taunton runner-up Jump City subsequently disappointed.

Get Me Out Of Here, winner of this race when it was called the totesport Trophy two years ago, ran a highly creditable second to Oscar Whisky at Cheltenham last time.

"Darlan remains a possible runner in the race, as is Get Me Out Of Here," said McManus' racing manager Frank Berry.

"Both horses are in good form. A lot is going to depend on the weather between now and then. It's hard to make any plans at the moment.

"Get Me Out Of Here ran well behind Oscar Whisky last time and Jonjo (O'Neill) is very pleased with him, so we'll see what happens."

With the Cheltenham Festival now only a little over five weeks away, the current cold snap is giving plenty of trainers headaches as they look to give their horses one more run in preparation for the showpiece meeting.

"It's important we get a lot of the horses out again before Cheltenham, so we could do with the weather helping us a bit. Giving them another run just takes the guesswork out of it," Berry added.
