Bold Sir Brian faces his next lesson in his education over fences when he runs in the John Smith's Future Champions Novice Chase at Musselburgh today.
The Lucinda Russell-trained six-year-old has made a highly promising start to his career over the bigger obstacles with wins at Hexham and Kelso on his last two starts in December, but he has to give weight to all his four rivals.
"He seems really well at home. We had thought of the Scilly Isles, which should have been at Sandown and then at Newbury, but thankfully we've managed to stay closer to home," said the Kinross handler.
"This will be different conditions for him - a sharper track, two miles four furlongs. He is going to have to learn to jump quick and be sharp at his fences, but it's all part of the big learning experience."
In the John Smith's Scottish Triumph Hurdle, Russell is represented by Cadore, who ran well on his hurdling debut at Wetherby in December, only to put in an under par performance at Ayr four weeks ago.
She went on: "It's a tough race and I think John Ferguson's horse (Creekside) looks really good. He has a chance, but that's all. We were disappointed with his second run over hurdles when he went to Ayr. Whether it was the ground or not I'm not sure, but he seems well at home."
