Charlton hails City slicker

Cityscape runs on strongly

Cityscape landed his first success for two years when flooring the favourite Secrecy in the Betfred 'Goals Galore' Superior Mile at Haydock.

Roger Charlton's four-year-old had been turned over when odds-on at Ascot on his previous start in May, but he bounced back in some style.

Taking over from Ordnance Row, Cityscape (9-2) kept on strongly in the closing stages to hold off Secrecy by a length and a quarter. The first two pulled two and three-quarter lengths clear of Awzaan in third.

"It's been a question of patience with him. He had multiple problems when he lurched in the dip in the 2000 Guineas last year," said Charlton.

"We have ben waiting for the ground at home to be able to train him, and for the ground on the track to be able to run him. Steve (Drowne) said it was perfect ground.

"We have to look at the Cambridgeshire and see what the penalty is. It is perhaps not usual to go back to a handicap after winning a Listed race, but it is a very big prize."

Drowne added: "We were hoping for a good run and he'll improve again, hopefully he can go on from here. He was a fair horse as a two-year-old, got injured at three, but he's back to his best now and that was a fair old Listed race."
