Kevin Darley is looking forward to returning to the saddle at Doncaster, the scene of many of his past glories, in the Fudge And Smudge Leger Legends Classified Stakes tomorrow.
Darley was the last northern-based rider to be crowned champion jockey in 2000 and he won the St Leger on Bollin Eric in 2002.
He retired from race-riding in 2007 and is now co-president of the Jockeys' Association of Great Britain, but he will get back in the saddle once again when he partners Plenty O'Toole for local trainer Debbie Sanderson.
He said: "I was a bit disappointed with my ride, but it's a bit of fun at the end of the day. I'm praying for plenty of rain as apparently it's better at the front crawl than galloping!
"Seriously, it's an absolute privilege to be amongst such a talented field of jockeys.
"This is a proper race, it's a very good idea and we know it's for a good cause. Charity races are OK, but this is a little bit special. It's something that may continue annually.
"I've got a lot of good memories at Doncaster. I won three Racing Post Trophies, a Leger - my first ever Classic winner - and I was crowned champion there, so it holds a special place."
