Thomas looking for Epsom repeat

Sam Thomas in Gold Cup-winning action on Denman

Sam Thomas and Epsom Salts are gunning for their second consecutive victory in the Tompkins & May Partnership Jump Jockeys Derby on Thursday.

As many as 11 National Hunt riders will be taking their chance over the Derby trip at Epsom and former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Thomas is looking to repeat his three-quarter-length success in 2009 aboard the locally trained and named gelding.

"It's a very different experience, but one we all enjoy. We are going a lot quicker than any jumps race, but the competitive element is still very much there and it's a race we all want to win," said Thomas.

"It's the same trip as the Derby and it's a change from what we do every day. Once again I am really looking forward to it."

The 2010 Gold Cup-winning jockey, Paddy Brennan, will get the leg up on Rosco Flyer.
